The Umsizi Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of African youth and supporting their path toward success and employability. When considering potential organizations or programs to support, the Fund evaluates the following key criteria

Economic Opportunity

Organizations focus on providing access to actual work experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, or paid employment to help African youth earn income, build networks, and gain experience.

Confidence and Agency

Programs create an empowering environment that allows youth to make informed decisions about their future and take control of their lives by building on their confidence and agency.

African-based and Led

Organizations should be based on the continent and led by Africans (proximal leaders).

Systemic and Collaborative

Organizations work in partnership with existing stakeholders, such as government, vocational schools, educators, and business, to increase their impact and sustainability.

Leadership and Board Governance

The organization's leadership team and board possess the skills, experience, and commitment to drive success. Governance practices facilitate stakeholder engagement including the end user.

Impactful

Organizations and leaders have a proven track record of creating impact in their fields and endeavors. They also develop lasting relationships that increase their ability to deliver impactful programs in the future.
